Sound School and Liquid Architecture present a lecture-workshop with Rashad Becker.
Rashad is considered one of the world’s foremost mastering engineers at the Berlin-based Dubplates & Mastering studio, with technical credits on hundreds of the most renowned underground electronic releases of the last decade.
More recently Becker has been fetishised as an avant-garde composer and solo electronic musician in his own right, with a practice wrapped up in precision and radical listening. His recent release on Berlin label PAN is hailed as ‘redolent of Smithsonian Folkways’ field recordings, with nods to early musique concrète and intercepted extraterrestrial transmissions’. Becker’s compositions are multilayered narratives populated by an ensemble of sonic entities. Often there’s a tragic-comical touch, like a cartoon version of what could be a requiem from a dream (or just as much a fertility dance from another dimension).
“Becker’s deft manipulation of the oddball sounds he creates allows him to elevate what could have been hazy sketches into the realm of high art” —The Quietus
