Do you want to learn how to create songs and soundscapes using a looping pedal? In this session, Yorta Yorta musician and composer Allara Briggs Pattison, and violinist, songwriter and live looper Xani Kolac will show us the creative possibilities of looping pedals. Let it inspire you for new creative ways of making and writing music.
Allara Briggs Pattison is a Yorta Yorta musician, composer, film maker, Wayapa Wuurrk-er and climate justice activist. Equipped with a loop station, electric bass, double bass and bright spirit, she pulls bow across strings to resonate dark frequencies forming emotive compositions. With orchestral harmonies mixed with electronic beats and traditional clap sticks, her sound is unique. Inspired by hip hop, soul, blues and reggae Allara is developing a storytelling nature taking the listener on a journey reflected by her passion's while encouraging cultural, spiritual and environmental empowerment.

Xani Kolac has spent the last decade exploring ways to amplify and effect the violin using electronic effects and live looping. She has a Masters degree in Improvisation from the VCA and has played with the likes of Jens Lekman, Paul Grabowsky, Kate Ceberano, Clare Bowditch and many others. Xani’s own projects include drums/violin live looping duo The Twoks, her solo project XANI and Melbourne Amplified Strings (MAS_). Passionate about creating more on-stage opportunities for female instrumentalists, she is also founder and Artistic Director of SPIRE ensemble
This is a free workshop for all ages, no background in music required. Bring your musical instruments if you want to experiment using them with a looping pedal, but this is not necessary.
